Design Collaborative Celebrates Topping Off of Two Major Projects

FORT WAYNE, IN – Design Collaborative (DC), is excited to announce that progress on The Pearl continues to push forward. In August, the project celebrated a major milestone of the uppermost steel beam being placed. This ceremony symbolizes a job well done thus far. On track to complete in the summer of 2024, this building will house residents and commercial space with tenants to be announced at a later date.

At The Pearl, businesses of all sizes can take advantage of the bustling city life Fort Wayne offers. As a hub for entertainment and education, it's become one of the most popular places to visit for locals and tourists alike. Whether you're looking for live music, art & culture or a place to dine with friends, The Pearl is your go-to destination in Fort Wayne. With its unique offerings and consistent momentum, The Pearl promises to be an unforgettable experience for all who visit. Project team members Design Collaborative, Weigand Construction, Sweet Real Estate, and Surack Enterprises (Architecture Team) look forward to the grand opening in the next 12 months.

Later in August, Canterbury High School officially closed the chapter on steel placement for their new fine arts building. The school, donors, and construction team (Design Collaborative and Weigand Construction) celebrated this moment with a topping off party.

A topping off ceremony is a common celebration where the final steel beam is placed with three symbolic feature features. First, the beam holds signatures of students and staff and the construction team as a visual representation of future end-users. Second, the American flag waves as a sign of patriotism and a sign of no accidents. Last, a live evergreen tree sits on top of the beam to signal growth and good luck to future building occupants. Construction will continue for the next 12 months with hopes of welcoming students next fall.
