VTA Awards Railworks and MCM Construction Contract for East San Jose Light Rail Extension

SAN JOSE, CA — RailWorks, a rail maintenance, technology, and infrastructure solutions provider, has been awarded the Eastridge to BART Regional Connector: Capitol Expressway Light Rail Project for $458 million by Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA). This project will be performed as a joint venture between RailWorks Track Services and MCM Construction, Inc. as the prime contractors, and L.K. Comstock National Transit and RailWorks Technical Services will be the subcontractors.

The scope of the project for RailWorks Track Services and L.K. National Transit includes a 2.4-mile extension of the existing light rail system, with 1.2 miles of that extension being direct fixation track on a new structure that will span Capitol Expressway. There will be two new passenger stations, two traction power substations, underground work, road widening, and landscaping. The work also includes adding a section of overhead electrification supplemental feeder system on the existing light rail system north of Alum Rock Light Rail Station.

RailWorks Technical Services will deliver an integrated signaling solution, network solution, and other technologies intended to enhance passenger safety and system awareness in the extension of rail operations to the new Eastbridge station.

“We are pleased to see the project move forward and partner with VTA to bring availability of mobility to an area underserved with transportation options," said Kevin Riddett, RailWorks President and CEO. “This project highlights the vast capabilities of RailWorks being a turnkey supplier and valued partner to our customers.”

Planning is underway, and the anticipated completion date of the project will be in 2027.
